Enel Green Power connects 18 MW PV plant in Chile to the grid, begins construction of a 79 MW project

Enel Green Power (EGP, Rome, Italy) has completed and connected the Lalackama II solar photovoltaic (PV) plant to the grid in the Antofagasta Region of Chile.

With a total capacity of 18 MW, the new PV plant is capable of generating approximately 50 GWh of solar power per year, the company announced on May 5th, 2015

Lalackama II is supported by a contract to supply solar power to private customers. The power generated by the plant will be delivered to Chile’s central region transmission network (Sistema Interconnectado Central, SIC).

The facility is located near the 60 MW Lalackama I photovoltaic plant, which entered into service at the end of 2014. Together, the two plants will be able to generate more than 210 GWh a year.

New 79 MW PV project supported by a long-term PPA

On May 4th, 2015 EGP announced the start of construction of the Pampa Norte PV plant, which is located in the municipality of Taltal, in Chile’s Antofagasta region.

The PV project, which will have a total installed capacity of 79 MW, will be able to generate more than 200 GWh of solar power per year once fully operational.

The project will be supported by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA (Endesa Chile). Solar power generated by the plant will be delivered to SIC (Sistema Interconectado Central), Chile’s Central Region Transmission Network.

In Chile, EGP runs the Diego de Almagro (36 MW), Lalackama (60 MW) and Chañares (40 MW) solar power facilities.
