Marubeni Corporation’s (Tokyo, Japan) wholly-owned subsidiary, “Iwanuma Rinku Mega Solar Corporation”, on May 19th, 2015 held the opening ceremony for a “mega” solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant which has successfully completed construction and started commercial operation in Iwanuma-City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
The 28.3 MW PV project, launched in June 2012, was part of a region-wide reconstruction project designed to support Iwanuma City recover after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Tsunami in 2011. The Iwanuma PV plant is expected to produce 29,000,000 kWh of solar power annually.
Marubeni’s total solar-power generation capacity reaches approximately 200 MW
Marubeni was selected as the business operator by Iwanuma City and has been working with the authorities, tsunami-affected landowners and other concerned parties to complete the project. At the time of its opening, the power plant was the largest solar power plant in the Tōhoku region of Japan.
